One of the best reasons to get an air fryer is so you can make many of your favorite foods faster. Admittedly, not EVERYTHING cooks faster, but many recipes do.
Another benefit is that some recipes that you would normally fry in a lot of oil can be air fried with as little as a few spritzes of oil. Saving you some calories, but also saving you the mess!
How to Air Fry Parmesan Crusted Chicken
Gather all of your ingredients together. Slice the chicken breasts in half lengthwise, making four pieces. Cover the chicken with plastic wrap and pound each piece to a half-inch thickness with the flat side of a meat tenderizer mallet.
Get three shallow bowls and add the flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. In another bowl add the egg and whisk it. In a third shallow dish, combine the parmesan cheese and panko bread crumbs.
Coat the chicken in the flour mixture, then the egg, then the panko mixture. Set the chicken in the air fryer basket.
Preheat the air fryer and then cook the chicken. It's so easy!

Can I use Other Cuts of Chicken?

- 2 large Chicken Breasts, cut in half lengthwise
- ¼ cup All Purpose Flour
- ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
- ½ teaspoon Salt
- ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
- 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
- 2 Eggs
- 1 cup Fresh Grated Parmesan Cheese (or finely shredded)
- 1 cup Panko Bread Crumbs
- Olive Oil Spray
Slice the chicken breasts in half lengthwise, making four pieces. Cover the chicken with plastic wrap and pound each piece to a half-inch thickness with the flat side of a meat tenderizer mallet.
In a wide shallow dish, combine the flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. In a second wide shallow dish, beat the eggs. In a third shallow dish, combine the parmesan cheese and panko.
Dip a piece of chicken in the flour mixture and coat well on both sides.
Place the chicken in the egg and coat.
Then place the chicken in the parmesan mixture and spoon mixture on the top. Press the mixture onto the chicken.
Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes.
Spray the air fryer basket with nonstick cooking spray, then place the chicken in the basket.
Spray the chicken with nonstick cooking spray or oil from a mister/spritzer. Place the basket into the air fryer and set temperature for 400°F.
Fry for 6 minutes, then flip the chicken over and spray with cooking spray. Cook for an additional 5 minutes or until chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F.
Serve the chicken with your favorite side dishes.
You can substitute the flour and egg with mayonnaise.
- Skip the flour & egg steps and coat the chicken in mayo.
- Sprinkle with the seasonings.
- Then go straight to the panko coating.
- Continue recipe as written.
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
