What is in Chex Snack Mix?
The ingredients are simple. The great thing about this recipe is that there are so many ways to customize it. I've listed several tasty variations below.
• Chex® Cereal – I like a variety such as Corn, Rice, and Wheat. Use Crispix brand if you can't get Chex®.
• Cheerios® Cereal – Use original Cheerios.
• Pretzels – Use a combination of pretzel sticks and the mini twists shapes for a fun variety. Or try mini bagel chips or rye chips.
• Peanuts – Unsalted roasted works best as they will get too salty if you use salted. Try cashews, almonds, or pecans.
• Oyster Crackers – Small and round with plenty of surface to absorb the sauce. Or try Goldfish crackers, or cheese crackers.
• Salted Butter – Adds a rich flavor and makes a sauce that absorbs into the dry ingredients.
• Seasonings – paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, black pepper.
• Worcestershire Sauce – Classic ingredient that adds amazing savory flavor.
Snack Mix Variations
Switch up the Seasoning: I've seen people use a packet of ranch dressing mix in place of the seasonings. Just add to the melted butter and Worcestershire.
Make it Spicy: I like to add a few dashes of hot sauce to the sauce mixture. Or use Spicy Cheese-It crackers.
Add Something Sweet: Try chocolate chips, M&Ms or Reese’s pieces to the cooled mix. Or add some Craisins®.
