Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan
Chicken Parmesan may sound like a complicated recipe to make, but it is actually very easy!
The air fryer gives this parmesan chicken the crispiest crust, and the ease of melting the cheese at the end.
Can I Use Any Cut of Chicken?
Chicken Parmesan traditionally calls for boneless/skinless chicken breasts, but you can use boneless/skinless chicken thighs as well. The cook time may change.
How to Serve Chicken Parmesan
- Whenever I have Chicken Parmesan, there is always a side of pasta (usually spaghetti noodles) with it. Have some extra marinara available to serve with it.
- If you are making this gluten free, you may want to use a GF pasta, or cauliflower or steamed veggies. You don't have to serve it with pasta!

I Need an Air Fryer!
If you are still looking for a good air fryer, I own and love the Cosori 5.8-quart Air Fryer.
How to Make Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan
Gather all of the ingredients together. Slice the chicken breasts lengthwise to make 4 total thin pieces. Then place in a bowl and coat with the seasonings.
In three separate bowls, add the flour to one, the whisked egg to a second, and the Panko and parmesan cheese to a third bowl.
Then dip the chicken in the flour, then into the egg, and lastly into the Panko mixture.
Set the breaded chicken into the preheated air fryer basket (preheat while prepping the chicken). Then air fry until done.
When the cook time is done, add the marinara and mozzarella/parmesan on top of the chicken and air fry just until the cheese melts. Then serve.
What if I don’t Have Panko Breadcrumbs?
You can use Ritz crackers or crushed cornflakes, mixed with a bit of melted butter.
Make Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan Gluten Free
• Substitute cornstarch for the flour, or something like Bob's Red Mill® Gluten free flour, which is a good substitute for all-purpose flour.
• Use crumbled Rice Chex® cereal in place of the Panko breadcrumbs.
Can Chicken Parmesan Be Frozen?
Yes. Allow to cool completely. Freeze in a ziplock freezer bag, airtight container, or wrap in aluminum foil. Allow to thaw before reheating.

Air Fryer Chicken Parmesan
- 2 Chicken Breasts, sliced in half lengthwise (medium size)
- ¾ teaspoon Kosher Salt, divided
- 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
- ⅓ cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 large Egg
- 1¼ cups Panko Breadcrumbs
- ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
- ½ cup Grated Parmesan
- 1¼ cups Marinara Sauce (store bought or homemade) plus more if serving with pasta
- ½ cup Shredded Mozzarella
- ½ cup Grated Parmesan
-
Season the chicken breasts with salt and the Italian seasoning. Set aside.
-
Preheat the air fryer to 375° F for 5 minutes. Grease the air fryer basket with cooking spray or place a parchment paper in it. Prep the chicken while air fryer is heating up.
-
You will need 3 shallow bowls. In one bowl, add the flour. In another bowl, add the egg and whisk it. In a third bowl, add the Panko breadcrumbs, garlic powder, and parmesan with ¼ teaspoon of the salt to season (mix).
-
Start by placing the chicken in the flour. Coat each side well. Gently shake off excess.
-
Next dip into the egg, and lastly in the Panko breadcrumbs mixture.
-
Place in the preheated air fryer basket (I like drizzle a bit of olive oil on the chicken before placing it in the air fryer but you can skip this part). Depending on the size of your basket you will cook in either 1 or 2 batches.
-
Cook at 375° F for 5 minutes, then flip and cook the chicken on the other side for another 5 minutes.
-
Don’t remove the chicken yet. Top with marinara sauce, mozzarella and parmesan. Air fry for 4 minutes until the cheese melted.
-
Remove and serve immediately with your favorite pasta and extra marinara.
How to Store Leftovers:
Allow to cool completely and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
How to Freeze:
Allow to cool down completely. Freeze in a ziplock freezer bag or wrap in aluminum foil.
How to Reheat:
Bring to room temperature before reheating. Reheat in the air fryer at 320° F until warmed through.
Calories will vary depending on ingredients and amounts.

What is the best air fryer?
Sandy
I have a Cosori (link in the post). I really like it. I also have an Instant® brand toaster oven style that is nice for larger items, but the basket style is so much easier to clean!
