Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy
People are always asking me for more ways to cook boneless/skinless chicken breasts. If the recipe can be scaled up or down, all the better. I have the best slow cooker chicken recipe for you today!
You can use 2 to 4 pounds of chicken, depending on how many people you need to feed. Keep the rest of the ingredients the same, you will have a little more gravy if you use less chicken.
This crock pot chicken and gravy recipe is really not new, it's an old-fashioned favorite, but my version can be made easily with just a couple of shortcuts.
What are the Recipe Shortcuts?
The first shortcut is chicken gravy or brown gravy mix packets. You know the ones, they are in the same place you find the taco seasoning packets in the grocery store.
These days most of these packets don't contain MSG (at least McCormick's doesn't), and the flavor is really good. This recipe takes 2 packets.
The second shortcut is good old cream of chicken soup. You will need 2 cans of it. Or, try 1 can of chicken and 1 can of cream of celery or mushroom.
This Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy recipe is very versatile!

Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy
- 2 ½-4 lbs Boneless/Skinless Chicken Breasts (or boneless/skinless thighs)
- 2 (.87 oz) packets Chicken Gravy Mix (or brown gravy mix)
- 1 ¾ cups Water
- 2 (10.5 oz) cans Cream of Chicken Soup (or 1 chicken and 1 celery)
- 2 teaspoons Garlic Powder
- ¼ cup Flour to thicken (or use instant mashed potatoes at the end)
- ¼-½ teaspoon Black Pepper
- Frozen Mixed Vegetables
-
Add the chicken to the slow cooker.
-
In a bowl, mix together the remaining ingredients (including flour, if using).
-
Pour the mixture over the chicken.
-
Place the lid on the slow cooker and cook on High for 3-4 hours, or on Low for 6-8 hours. Stir once halfway through.
-
Remove the chicken to a plate and shred it. Then add it back into the crock. You might be able to shred it directly in the crock.
-
Serve over mashed potatoes, rice, noodles, or cauliflower rice.
To save time you can use a rotisserie chicken that has been deboned and shredded. Cook for half the amount of time.

So economical, easy & delicious! I put it with mashed potatoes & salad, but I can easily see it going well with rice or biscuits. Thanks for this recipe!

We love this and we serve it with mashed potatoes and waffles.

Great recipe! I cooked it on low for 6 hours and used chicken broth instead of water. I loved it, but my boyfriend and his family loved it even more!
Jessica
Oh and I added russet potatoes and we ate it over white rice. Delicious
Lori
This is by far a new family favorite. My son who is so darn picky requests this! I serve it over rice for my husband and I and my kids like it over spaghetti.

Can you use chicken broth instead of water? Would you use the same amount?
Sandy
Yes, but be sure to use low sodium as the gravy packets have quite a bit of sodium in them. Use the same amount as water.

This is so good! I served it over mashed potatoes and we ate every bit of it (we have 3 kids). This is now in our rotation!
