Fresh Turmeric Tonic

If you have been following turmeric in the news, you already know that it has proven benefits, according to experts. Anti-inflammatory, digestive, and much more.

I'm not a doctor or nutrition specialist in any way, but I am intrigued by all that I have read. You can come to your own conclusions about this amazing root.

I wanted to be able to take turmeric in a way that was enjoyable, and to pair it with some other healthy ingredients.

A morning "tonic" or smoothie seemed like a fun recipe to try. I am really happy with it!

What is Turmeric?

According to Wikipedia, "Turmeric is a flowering plant, Curcuma longa of the ginger family, Zingiberaceae, the roots of which are used in cooking".

It does look a bit like ginger, with the little toes growing out of a larger part of the root. Its peel is layered looking, and that gives it a striped appearance. The flesh is a lovely bright orange color.

Use a good blender

This is where a really good blender comes in handy. All of the strings from the ginger, and the other ingredients will be completely pureed, leaving just a small amount of pulp behind.

I like that this tonic has some texture, and isn't just a thin juice. However, if you like a thinner juice, you could strain it.

Can I use Powdered Turmeric?

Yes, however be sure you find the freshest you can, and from a reputable source.

I don't use the powder for this Turmeric Tonic because the flavor is so nice from the fresh root.

This is very good. I've made it both ways, with coconut water and filtered water (because I ran out of coconut water). It's great either way. I followed the recipe exactly. I wouldnt change a thing. I've made it several times. I also like to put it in those immunity shot containers to bring with to work.

This tonic is delicious. I made it with water, not coconut water, and no sweetener. It was good just like that. Thank you so much for developing this recipe.

I absolutely love this smoothie drink it felt like I was in paradise. I’ll added canned organic coconut milk Unsweetened along with coconut water. I did great the ginger turmeric route and the carrot and used a nutribullet blender. Warning turmeric root really stains your fingers, countertops and cutting boards. I plan to drink those to help of my skin seborhic dermatitis and scalp issues because I heard turmeric helps with inflammation.

Whoa! That has quite the kick! I've discovered that I LOVE fresh turmeric root in smoothies and have been searching other ways to use it. I really like this recipe, but. I'm not someone who likes a lot of spice/heat, so next time, I'll cut back a bit on the amount of both roots. I also added a little bit of coconut milk for the fat. I love drinking something so very healthy! Thank you for the recipe!
