Ravioli Lasagna with Meat Sauce is an easy weeknight dinner recipe that you can make in about an hour. Or make it ahead of time and bake it when you are ready! This simple baked pasta dish uses refrigerated ravioli and jarred marinara sauce as the perfect shortcut ingredients to help you get dinner on the table with ease.

Ravioli Lazy Lasagna

Recipe shortcuts can save a lot of time and effort in the kitchen, especially when making dinner on a busy night. That's why I like the nickname of Lazy Lasagna!

This is a delicious lasagna using ravioli from the refrigerator section of the grocery store. You could also use the frozen variety if you let it thaw out first.

Can This Lasagna Be Made Ahead?

  • Yes, Ravioli Lasagna with Meat Sauce can be made ahead. It can even be frozen to bake at a later date (using a foil disposable pan).
  • Simply prepare the lasagna as instructed, but don't add the last layer of shredded cheese, keep that separate.
  • Then let it cool completely and either refrigerate it or freeze it (use a foil disposable pan if freezing).
  • Bake per instructions. If baking a frozen lasagna, you can either thaw it first, then bake per instructions, or bake it from frozen (it will take an additional 40 minutes to an hour, depending on the oven).

Lazy Lasagna Ingredients

Ravioli Lasagna with Meat Sauce ingredients
Olive Oil – Use a good quality extra virgin olive oil, or your preferred frying oil.
Onion – Use a yellow or white onion.
Garlic – The fresh garlic cloves can be substituted with 3 heaped teaspoons of minced jar garlic.
Ground Beef – The ground beef can be substituted with any variety of ground meat, such as pork or turkey.
Marinara Sauce – Use a jarred marinara sauce, or your own homemade version.
Italian Seasoning – Use a store-bought blend of Italian herbs, or alternatively a homemade blend.
Salt and Pepper – Season the sauce with salt and pepper to suit your personal tastes.
Fresh Ravioli – Use fresh ravioli found in the refrigerator section of grocery stores. Any variety of ravioli can be used.
Smooth Ricotta Cheese – For best results use a smooth, whole fat ricotta cheese.
Mozzarella Cheese – For best results use a piece of mozzarella cheese that your have shredded yourself, however store-bought shredded mozzarella can also be used.
Parmesan Cheese – Either grate the parmesan cheese yourself, or use store-bought pre-grated parmesan cheese.
Fresh Parsley – Fresh parsley is used to garnish the baked ravioli lasagna, however this is optional and can be omitted.

Ingredients
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 1 Onion peeled and diced
  • 3 Minced Garlic Cloves
  • 1 pound Ground Beef, or ground turkey
  • 3 cups Marinara Sauce, or spaghetti sauce
  • 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
  • Salt and Pepper, to taste
  • 1 pound Refrigerated Ravioli
  • 1 cup Smooth Ricotta Cheese
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
  • ½ cup Grated Parmesan Cheese
  • ¼ cup Finely Chopped Fresh Parsley, for garnishing (optional)
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F/180°c.
  2. Add the olive oil and diced onion to a large skillet heated over medium-high heat. Cook, stirring often, for 4 minutes or until softened. Add the garlic and cook, stirring, for 1 minute or until fragrant.

  3. Add the ground beef to the onion mixture and cook, stirring and breaking up lumps with the back of a wooden spoon, until the beef is no longer pink.
  4. Add the marinara sauce and Italian seasoning to the beef mixture, and stir until well combined. Season to taste with salt and pepper. Remove from the heat.

  5. Combine the mozzarella cheese and grated parmesan in a mixing bowl. Set aside.

  6. Spoon ⅓ of the ground beef mixture into a 9 x 13 inch baking dish. Arrange half of the ravioli over the sauce.

  7. Spread all of the ricotta cheese over the ravioli. Top with ½ of the remaining beef sauce, and then ½ of the shredded mozzarella cheese.

  8. Arrange the remaining ravioli over the cheese layer, then top with the remaining beef mixture.

  9. Cover with a sheet of foil, and bake in the oven for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and sprinkle the remaining mozzarella cheese mixture over. Return to oven, uncovered, and bake for another 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and golden.

  10. Top with the fresh parsley, if using, and serve.

Recipe Notes

This lasagna can be made meat-free by omitting the ground beef, and choosing a meat-free variety of ravioli.

This lasagna is perfect served both on it’s own, or with a side of leafy green salad and fresh crusty bread.

I haven't tried this recipe, but I have a similar recipe that is absolutely delicious. Instead of ricotta cheese, use cottage cheese mixed with 1 egg, garlic powder and the parmesan cheese. I use the large frozen 4 cheese ravioli, otherwise the meat sauce is the same and the mozzerella cheese is the same.
