Instant Pot Buttered Cabbage
You just wouldn't think that something so very simple could taste so delicious. If you like cabbage, and possibly even if you don't, this buttery, comforting recipe is for you!
I really meant to share this recipe with you ages ago. So many recipes, so little time! Instant Pot Buttered Cabbage is an Instant Pot "Dump and Start" recipe that is also fast cooking, and super easy to prepare.
If you want a little more veggies, or even bacon with your cabbage, try my other Instant Pot Cabbage recipes:
Instant Pot German Red Cabbage (tangy sweet & sour flavor).
Instant Pot Cabbage Side Dish (with onion and carrots).
Instant Pot Braised Cabbage and Apples (savory and sweet, with bacon).
Which cabbage is best for this recipe?
- Good old green cabbage (or white cabbage) works the best for this buttered cabbage recipe.
- The leaves are densely packed, and tight.
- The flavor is sweet and peppery, and the cabbage gets sweeter as it cooks.
Why use unsalted butter if you are going to add salt anyway?
I get asked this a lot! Salted butter is glorious and delicious! I love it on lobster, toast and rolls. But it is pretty salty. Too salty for most of my recipes, and makes it hard to control the outcome.
Therefore I like to use unsalted butter and only add enough to season the recipe to my liking.
This is also good for people on a low sodium diet, or folks who like different kinds of salts (sea salt, kosher, pink, etc.).
Try making this buttered cabbage for your next gathering and be prepared to soak up all of the compliments!

I love cabbage and this would probably go really good with corned beef too 🙂 It will be less salty then cooking in the corned beef water! I am the only one who really appreciates the flavor of cabbage here, tho I do have one family member adjusting to sauerkraut (baby steps!) I have family who would enjoy it tho for sure and I will make it next time they are here.
The Instant Pot makes life so much easier, doesn't it?
Sandy
I agree, Dawn! And I love cabbage with my corned beef.
