Halloween Feet Loaf is a creepy twist on classic meatloaf, shaped into two feet with onion toenails, leek bones, and a sweet ketchup glaze. This spooky Halloween meatloaf looks delightfully gruesome, but underneath all that creepy decorating is a delicious homemade dinner!

Easy Halloween Meatloaf Feet

These creepy meatloaf feet are fun to make, and shaping the toes and adding the onion toenails is easier than you might think!

I made mine with lean ground turkey, and they turned out tender and flavorful without being dry. The onion toenails stayed in place during baking, and the leek bones sticking out of the ankles added just the right creepy touch.

The sweet ketchup glaze adds wonderful flavor, too. Be sure to save a little extra for dipping! Your Halloween party guests will love it!

Why You’ll Love This Halloween Feet Loaf

  • Fun Halloween presentation. Onion toenails, leek bones, and a bloody-looking glaze make these feet deliciously creepy.
  • Homemade meatloaf. Simple ingredients make a flavorful meatloaf that’s good enough to enjoy even without the Halloween decorations.
  • No special molds needed. Shape the meatloaf by hand using a few simple kitchen tools.
  • Delicious glaze. The sweet and tangy ketchup topping adds flavor and makes a great dipping sauce.

Halloween Feet Loaf Ingredients

You only need basic meatloaf ingredients and a couple of vegetables to make these creepy Halloween meatloaf feet!

Ingredients for Halloween Feet Loaf, including ground turkey, panko breadcrumbs, eggs, onion, leek, ketchup, and seasonings.

For the exact measurements, see the recipe card below.

Ground Turkey or Lean Ground Beef, Plain Panko Breadcrumbs, Milk, Eggs, Yellow Onion, Olive Oil, Garlic, Ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce, Italian Seasoning, Salt, Black Pepper, Brown Sugar, Leek

The panko, milk, and eggs help bind the meatloaf and keep it tender. The onion and garlic add flavor, while extra onion pieces and a leek make the creepy decorations.

Ground beef: You can use 90/10 lean ground beef instead of turkey. The beef version hasn’t been tested yet, so check the consistency while shaping and use a meat thermometer to determine when it’s done. Ground beef should reach 160°F.

How to Make Halloween Feet Loaf

Making this creepy Halloween dinner takes a little extra time for shaping and decorating, but the meatloaf itself is easy to prepare.

Diced onion cooking in a skillet, panko breadcrumbs soaking in milk, and leek sections prepared for the ankle bones.
  • Cook the onion. Sauté the diced onion in olive oil until softened. Add the garlic and cook briefly, then let cool.
  • Soak the breadcrumbs. Combine the panko and milk and let stand for 5 minutes.
  • While the cooked onion cools and the panko soaks, prepare the leek pieces and cut the onion toenails.
Cutting curved onion toenails, mixing eggs and seasonings with the breadcrumbs, and adding ground turkey and cooked onion.
  • To the moistened breadcrumbs, mix in the eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings.
  • Gently mix in the cooled cooked onion and ground meat.
Mixing the turkey meatloaf, shaping two feet with onion toenails and leek bones, and preparing the ketchup glaze.
  • Chill the mixture. Refrigerate for 20 minutes to help it firm up before shaping.
  • Shape the feet. Divide the meat mixture in half. Shape each portion into a foot, making five individual toes with deep spaces between them.
  • Add the decorations. Press curved onion pieces into the toes for toenails. Insert a thick piece of leek into each ankle to resemble a bone.
  • Mix the sweet ketchup glaze. Set aside a little in a separate bowl for dipping.

  • Bake and glaze. Bake at 375°F until nearly cooked through. Brush with the sweet ketchup glaze, making sure to get between the toes (but avoid the toenails)! Return to the oven until the meatloaf reaches the proper internal temperature.
  • Decorate and serve. Let the meatloaf rest, then carefully transfer the feet to a serving platter. Add a little extra ketchup around the ankle bones for a bloody effect!

How to Shape the Meatloaf Feet

You can mold the feetloaf any way you like! I took inspiration from Bigfoot!

Two uncooked ground turkey meatloaf feet with onion toenails and leek ankle bones on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • The most important part is giving the toes plenty of definition so they remain recognizable after baking.
  • Divide the meat mixture into two portions and shape each one into an elongated foot. Keep the ankle narrower and the front of the foot wider. Keep both feet the same height (thickness), and don’t make the feet too thin from top to bottom.
  • Use your fingers or a small spatula to separate five toes, making the big toe noticeably wider and longer than the others. Create deep spaces between the toes, but keep each one attached to the foot.

To make the toenails: Separate the curved layers of a yellow or white onion. Cut 10 small, rounded toenail shapes, making two larger ones for the big toes. Press the bottom edge of each nail into the meatloaf, leaving most of it visible.

To make the ankle bones: Cut two thick pieces from the white portion of a leek. Press one into each ankle, leaving about 1–1½ inches exposed. Gently press the meat around the leek to hold it in place.

The feet don’t have to look identical. A little variation in the shapes makes them even creepier!

Tips for the Best Halloween Meatloaf

  • Chill the mixture. Ground turkey can be soft, and chilling makes it easier to form the feet and toes.
  • Keep the toes fairly thick. Thin toes can dry out or break when you’re transferring the meatloaf.
  • Don’t overmix the meat. Mix just until everything is combined to help keep the meatloaf tender.
  • Use a meat thermometer. Cook ground turkey to 165°F or ground beef to 160°F. Check the thickest part of the foot, away from the leek.
  • Don’t cover the toenails with glaze. Brush around them so the onion nails stay visible.
  • Transfer carefully. Use two wide spatulas to lift the feet onto a serving platter without breaking the toes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I shape the meatloaf feet ahead of time?

Yes. You can shape the feet and add the decorations up to a day ahead, as long as the ground meat is fresh and remains within its safe refrigerated storage time. Cover and refrigerate until ready to bake. They may need a little extra baking time if going into the oven cold.

Why is there a pale liquid around my meatloaf after baking?

Ground turkey can release moisture and proteins as it cooks, leaving some pale liquid on the baking sheet. This is normal. Let the meatloaf rest, then carefully transfer the feet to a clean serving platter, leaving the cooking juices behind.

Ingredients

Meatloaf

  • 2 pounds Ground Turkey (93/7, or 90/10 Lean Ground Beef)
  • ¾ cup plus 2 Tablespoons Plain Panko Breadcrumbs (â…ž cup total)
  • â…“ cup Milk
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 1 medium Yellow Onion finely diced
  • 2 teaspoons Olive Oil
  • 2 cloves Garlic minced
  • 2 Tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper

Decorations

  • 1 Yellow or White Onion for 10 toenails
  • 1 Thick Leek white portion, for 2 ankle bones
  • Extra Ketchup for decorating the ankles (optional)

Sweet Ketchup Glaze

  • 6 Tablespoons Ketchup
  • 1 ½ Tablespoons Brown Sugar
  • ¾ teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce

Instructions

Prepare the Meatloaf Mixture

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the diced onion and cook for 5–6 minutes, until softened. Add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Remove from the heat and let cool slightly.
  • Combine the panko breadcrumbs and milk in a large mixing bowl. Stir and let stand for 5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper to the moistened breadcrumbs. Mix until combined.
  • Add the cooled onion mixture and ground turkey (or beef). Gently mix until evenly incorporated. Avoid overmixing.
  • Cover and refrigerate the meat mixture for 20 minutes to help it firm up for shaping.

Shape and Decorate the Feet

  • Divide the mixture into two equal portions on the prepared baking sheet. Shape each portion into a foot, with a narrower ankle and wider front. Create five toes on each foot, making the big toes wider than the others. Use your fingers or a small spatula to create deep spaces between the toes.
  • Separate the layers of the remaining onion and cut 10 curved toenail shapes. Make two larger nails for the big toes and eight smaller ones for the other toes. Press the bottom edge of each toenail into the meatloaf to secure it, leaving most of the nail visible.
  • Cut two thick leek pieces approximately 3–4 inches long. Insert one into each ankle, leaving about 1–1½ inches exposed. Gently press the meat around the leek to secure it. Loosely cover the exposed leek sections with foil if desired to help prevent browning.

Bake and Glaze

  • Bake for about 30 minutes, then check the internal temperature in the thickest part of the meatloaf, away from the leek.
  • While the meatloaf bakes, stir together the ketchup, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce for the glaze. Set aside some of the glaze in a separate, clean bowl for dipping.
  • When the meatloaf is nearly cooked through, gently brush a thin layer of glaze over the feet, avoiding the onion toenails. And don't forget to get between the toes! Return to the oven for approximately 5–10 minutes, or until the turkey reaches 165°F or the ground beef reaches 160°F. If the meatloaf has already reached temperature before glazing, return it to the oven only briefly to set the glaze.

Finish and Serve

  • Remove from the oven and let rest for 5–10 minutes. Carefully transfer the feet to a serving platter using two wide spatulas. Add a little extra ketchup around the leek bones to resemble blood, if desired.
  • Serve warm with the reserved glaze for dipping.

Notes

Ground Beef: This recipe was tested with 93/7 ground turkey. You can substitute 90/10 lean ground beef, but the texture and cooking time may vary. Cook ground beef to an internal temperature of 160°F.
For the best presentation, transfer the cooked feet loaf to a clean platter, leaving any cooking juices behind.
