Easy Halloween Chex Mix

This easy Halloween snack mix combines crunchy cereal and salty pretzels with a lightly sweetened, buttery cinnamon coating. After baking until crisp, it’s finished with white chocolate and colorful Halloween candies.

My favorite thing about this Halloween Snack Mix is the combination of textures and flavors. The Chex and pretzels are crisp and crunchy, the buttery cinnamon coating adds just the right amount of flavor, and the white chocolate brings everything together.

The candy corn adds a little chewiness, which I love! It’s sweet, salty, cinnamon-y, and so good!

Why You’ll Love This Halloween Snack Mix

  • Sweet and salty. Buttery cereal, salty pretzels, cinnamon, chocolate, and candy make a delicious combination.
  • Fun for Halloween. Colorful candies and little candy eyeballs give it a festive look.
  • Easy to make. Just a few simple steps, and no complicated decorating.
  • Perfect for sharing. Serve it in a bowl, fill individual treat cups, or package it for Halloween treats.
  • Easy to double. Make a larger batch when you’re feeding a crowd.

Halloween Snack Mix Ingredients

This Halloween Chex Mix uses simple ingredients to make a crunchy, sweet and salty party snack. Have fun choosing your candies!

Ingredients for Halloween Snack Mix, including Cinnamon Chex, pretzels, butter, white melting chocolate, and assorted Halloween candies.

For exact amounts, please see the recipe card below.

Cinnamon Chex cereal, mini pretzel twists, unsalted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, salt, white melting chocolate, Reese’s Pieces, Halloween M&M’s, candy corn, and candy eyeballs.

A few ingredient tips:

  • Cinnamon Chex: Adds a light cinnamon flavor that works well with the buttery coating. Regular Rice Chex or Corn Chex can also be used, though the flavor will be a little different.
  • White melting chocolate: Use melting wafers or candy melts that are designed for coating and drizzling. White chocolate chips may not melt as smoothly.
  • Halloween candies: Reese’s Pieces, M&M’s, and candy corn add chocolate, peanut butter flavor, and plenty of festive color.

  • Transfer to your serving platter and scatter more Halloween candies over the mix, drizzle with more chocolate, and add a few candy eyeballs on top while the chocolate is still soft.
  • Let set. Allow the chocolate to harden completely. Leave the snack mix arranged on the serving platter, or gently break it into clusters for serving.

Tips for the Best Halloween Party Snack Mix

  • Coat evenly. Add the buttery coating in a few additions, gently tossing between each so the cereal and pretzels are evenly coated.
  • Cool completely. Let the baked cereal cool before adding the white chocolate so it sets properly.

For a pretty party presentation: Arrange the snack mix on your serving platter before adding the final chocolate drizzle. Sprinkle extra Halloween candies over the top and add a few candy eyeballs while the chocolate is still soft. Once set, you can leave everything arranged on the platter or break it into clusters for serving.

Variations and Substitutions

  • Different Chex cereal: Try Rice Chex or Corn Chex in place of some or all of the Cinnamon Chex.
  • Different candies: Use your favorite Halloween-colored chocolate candies or chopped mini peanut butter cups.
  • Extra salty crunch: Replace some of the pretzels with salted nuts, if desired.
  • Different holidays: Change the candy colors to make this an easy snack mix for Christmas, Valentine’s Day, or other celebrations.

How to Store Halloween Snack Mix

Once the chocolate is completely set, transfer the Halloween party mix to an airtight container. Store in a cool, dry place at room temperature for up to 5 days for the best freshness and crunch.

Keep it away from heat or direct sunlight so the chocolate doesn’t soften.

I love serving this snack mix in little paper treat cups. They’re easy for guests to grab, and the colorful candy makes them look so festive! I found mine here (these are a little different): Halloween Treat Cups

Ingredients

Cereal Mixture

  • 3 cups Cinnamon Chex Cereal
  • 1 cup Mini Pretzel Twists

Buttery Cinnamon Coating

  • 4 Tablespoons Unsalted Butter
  • ¼ teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 4 teaspoons Light Brown Sugar packed
  • ½ teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • ¼ teaspoon Fine Salt

Chocolate and Halloween Candy

  • 4 ounces White Melting Chocolate
  • ¼ cup Reese’s Pieces
  • ¼ cup Halloween M&M’s
  • 3 Tablespoons Candy Corn
  • Candy Eyeballs optional

Instructions

Prep

  • Heat the oven to 275°F. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Add the Cinnamon Chex and mini pretzels to a large mixing bowl.

Make the Buttery Cinnamon Coating

  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over medium-low heat. Stir in the cinnamon, then add the brown sugar. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt.
  • Drizzle the buttery mixture over the cereal and pretzels in a few additions, gently tossing between additions to coat as evenly as possible.
  • Spread the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

Bake the Chex Mix

  • Bake for 20–25 minutes, gently stirring halfway through. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.

Add the White Chocolate and Candy

  • Melt the white melting chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl at 50% power in 20-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth.
  • Push the cooled cereal mixture close together on the baking sheet. Drizzle with about half of the melted white chocolate, gently turning some of the pieces to distribute the chocolate.
Add some of the Halloween candies and gently stir to distribute them throughout the mix.

Decorate

  • Transfer the mixture to a serving platter. Scatter the remaining Halloween candies over the top, then drizzle with the remaining white chocolate. Add the candy eyeballs and a few candy corns while the chocolate is still soft.

Let Set and Serve

  • Let the chocolate harden completely. Serve the snack mix right on the platter to preserve the arrangement, or gently break it into smaller clusters for serving in individual cups or bowls.

Notes

White Chocolate: Start with 4 ounces of melting chocolate and use as much as needed for a good drizzle. A little extra helps the cereal and candies form clusters.
Candy: Feel free to add a few extra candies over the top for a colorful presentation.
Storage: Store in an airtight container in a cool, dry place at room temperature for up to 5 days.
Make a Double Batch: Double all ingredients and use two baking sheets if needed, so the cereal has room to bake evenly.
Allergens: Contains milk, wheat, soy, and peanuts, depending on the brands used. Check individual ingredient labels.
