Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries are delicious and healthy. This is an easy air fryer recipe. Making sweet potato fries in the air fryer is super easy, and the cleanup is minimal.

Air Fryer Sweet Potato Fries

Sweet potato fries are very popular. They have great flavor, and have more nutrients than regular potato fries. My air fried sweet potato fries are coated in a yummy spice mixture before cooking.

For this air fryer sweet potato fries recipe, you have some options

  • Cut the fries into traditional size fries, or thick-cut steak fries (which take a little longer to cook). Both are great!
  • You can use Yams (the orange sweet potatoes), or white sweet potatoes. Both are delicious!
  • Instead of the spice mixture, you can just use simple salt & pepper, or no spices at all.

Can I make these air fryer fries without oil?

You can, however they may not get crisp. If that is not a concern for you, then omit the oil if you prefer.

The great thing about air frying is that you don't need a lot of oil. We mainly use a small amount of oil to brown and crisp foods, or spray them to ensure they don't stick together.

There are many foods that you can air fry without needing them to be crisp. My best advice it to experiment with your favorite foods. Air frying is fun!

You can check the progress of the food that is air frying at any time during the cooking cycle. This gives you peace of mind and helps prevent overcooked food!

I'm still looking for an air fryer

Great! There are many types out there.

  • The most common are the basket-in-front models, such as the GoWISE USA 1700-Watt 5.8-QT. (affiliate)
  • I have the Ninja Foodi, which is a pressure cooker and air fryer multi-cooker. Ninja Foodi. (affiliate)
  • There are also lids for Instant Pots and other pressure cookers that convert them into air fryers (I haven't tried one).

Course: Side Dish
Cuisine: American
Keyword: Sweet potato fries in the air fryer
Servings: 4 - 6
Calories: 320 kcal
Author: Sandy Clifton
Ingredients
  • 2 Sweet Potatoes, peeled and cut into fries
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • ½ teaspoon Kosher Salt
  • ¼ teaspoon Pepper
  • ½ teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Smoked Paprika
  • ¼ teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Chili Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Cumin
Instructions
  1. Peel the sweet potatoes and cut them into ¼ inch thick fries. Place in a gallon size zipper storage bag.

  2. Add the oil to the bag and move the fries around in the bag until all are coated in the oil. Use a little more oil if necessary.

  3. Mix the spices together in a small bowl. Then sprinkle over the fries in the bag. Move the fries around to coat evenly with the spices.

  4. Preheat the air fryer by running it for a couple of minutes at 400° F.

  5. Add half of the sweet potato fries to the basket and space them apart so there can be air flow around them. If too crowded thy won't get crisp. Depending on the size of your sweet potatoes, you may need 3 batches.

  6. Air fry at 400° F for 8 to 10 minutes. Shake the basket halfway through cook time (be careful, hot basket!).

  7. Repeat with the next batch.

  8. Serve hot with your favorite dipping sauce.
