Enjoy this Instant Pot Turkey Breast Potato Dinner for Thanksgiving, or any time of the year. This is a one-pot meal that you can make in your Instant Pot. Pressure cooker turkey breast is juicy and tender, the potatoes cook perfectly, and I didn't forget the gravy!

Instant Pot Turkey Breast Potato Dinner

This year for Thanksgiving, Paul and I are having an Instant Pot Turkey Breast Potato Dinner. That is, unless someone either invites us to their place and cooks, or comes to our place and cooks!

I don't have as many mouths to feed these days, so cooking just the turkey breast in my Instant Pot is perfect for our little Thanksgiving, or any special occasion!

Throw in some potatoes at the end and then making the gravy in the same pot is a plus. And only one pot to clean, unless I make another dish, which will probably be in my other Instant Pot!

How to cook a Turkey breast in the Instant Pot Pressure cooker

  1. Season the turkey breast.
  2. Pressure cook the turkey breast in the Instant Pot according to weight.
  3. Take turkey breast out of the Instant Pot and put the potatoes in (if using).
  4. Cook potatoes while turkey breast browns under the broiler (optional, but it makes a nice skin).
  5. Take potatoes out of the Instant Pot and thicken the drippings to make the gravy.

Then you have a turkey breast and potato meal that you made in your Instant Pot!

Just throw in a few potatoes after the turkey cooks, and let them cook while the turkey browns.

You don't have to cook potatoes, you can skip right to the gravy. Since I usually have potatoes with a turkey dinner, this is the most convenient and tasty way to make them! Then I make the gravy after they are done!

I have to have cranberry sauce with my turkey! I love how the flavors go so well together. I also like to put some on my leftover turkey sandwich! Yum!

Instant Pot Turkey Breast Potato Dinner is a one pot meal that you can make in your electric pressure cooker. Suitable for Thanksgiving, or any special occasion. And I didn't forget the gravy!

Course: Main Course
Cuisine: American
Keyword: pressure cooker turkey breast
Servings: 4 - 6
Calories: 165 kcal
Author: Sandy Clifton
Ingredients
For the Instant Pot
  • 1 cup Water
For the Turkey
  • 1 Tablespoon Olive Oil
  • 2 teaspoons Poultry Seasoning
  • 3 teaspoons Rubbed Sage
  • 1 teaspoon Coarse Salt
  • ½ teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 1 2-6 lb Turkey Breast (or whatever will fit in your pot)
  • 3-4 Large Potatoes
Optional Add-Ins (add in and cook with turkey breast)
  • 1 Small Onion, chopped
  • 2 Garlic Cloves, minced
For the Gravy
  • ⅓ cup Butter
  • ⅓ cup Flour
Instructions
  1. Put the water in the inner liner of the Instant Pot, and put the wire rack/trivet in also.

  2. Rub the turkey breast with the olive oil and rub the spices all over it.

  3. Place the turkey breast in the pressure cooker, however it fits best (I try to put mine breast meat side down, but have cooked some on their sides). Also add in the onion and garlic, if using.

  4. Put the lid on the IP and set the steam release knob to the Sealing position.

  5. Press the Pressure Cook, or Manual button, and then the + or - button to choose the time in minutes (I have had the good results with about 25 minutes for a smaller 2-4 pound breast, and about 30 minutes for a 5-6 pound breast about 40 minutes for a 7 lb breast). High pressure.

  6. When the cooking cycle has ended, let the pot sit and naturally release for 15 minutes. Then manually release the remaining steam. When the pin in the lid drops, open the pot.

  7. Take the temperature and determine if it is fully cooked. If it is below 165 degrees F, put the lid back on the pot and set the IP to cook for a couple more minutes and let it naturally release for 10 minutes.

I always take the temperature with an instant read thermometer. You want it to be 165 degrees F to be fully cooked.

  8. Remove the turkey breast to a baking pan. Also remove the wire rack/trivet.

Cook the Potatoes
  1. Put the whole potatoes in the pot, close the lid and set the steam release knob to the Sealing position.

  2. Press the Manual, or Pressure Cook button, and then the + or - button to choose 10 minutes. When cooking cycle is done, do a Quick Release of the pressure (Carefully turn the steam release knob immediately after the pot beeps to release the pressure)

  3. Remove potatoes and set aside while you make the gravy.

Brown the Turkey While the Potatoes are Cooking (optional step)
  1. Set your oven rack to the lowest position. Turn on your broiler to 425 degrees F to begin warming up.

  2. Place the baking pan with the turkey breast, skin side up, under the broiler. Let it brown a few minutes (depending on the size of the turkey breast, you might need to turn it to get all of it browned). If you don't want to brown it, just skip this step and let it rest, covered, while the potatoes cook.

Make the Gravy
  1. Press the Sauté button (Normal heat) on the pressure cooker.

  2. In a microwave safe dish, mix the butter and flour and microwave for about 20-25 seconds.

  3. When the drippings in the pot start to simmer, stir in the butter/flour mixture. Keep stirring until the gravy thickens.

  4. Serve!

Recipe Notes

*If cooking from frozen, add about 6 minutes for a smaller breast, and 10 minutes for a larger breast (possibly more if it is very thick. I try to start with a lesser amount of time so I don't overcook it).
--------
**For a 6 qt IP, you might be able to fit up to a 7 lb breast in it.

Is the recipe for a bone-in turkey breast or boneless?

Now that the CrispLid is available, could the turkey breast be browned with it instead of the oven?

Yes! I don't have one, but as long as it fits over it I'm sure it would be great!

    Sandy,
Would it be possible to put Stuffing on bottom instead of Potatoes?
    Have you ever tried it?

Hi Jo, for stuffing, I would put it in a separate pan. If there is room for one! I haven't tried adding it directly in.

Very good! Was super hot today and didn't want to turn on stove or grill so this was perfect. Turkey was a little over (still super moist) and potatoes a little under but just put them back in and did 5 more minutes. Wondering if with a small enough breast and big enough potatoes I could do both at once? Might try next time! Great recipe!

Hi Libby, yes, I do think you could do them both at once. The bone-in breasts vary in size so much, but with this first one, you know to back off the time a little. The size of the potato is what determines the cook time, so large ones may need to be cut in half. But if you cook them together, you can leave them whole. Thank you for your review! I'm glad you liked this recipe.
