Tips & Variations

โ€ข Try Different Meat โ€“ Use cooked ground sausage, another ground meat, or stir in shredded rotisserie chicken during the last hour of cook time.

โ€ข Soup Variations โ€“ Try cream of mushroom or cream of celery for a different flavor base.
โ€ข Add Veggies โ€“ Stir in a cup of frozen peas & carrots or green beans during the last hour for extra veggies.
โ€ข Crisp Up the Cheese โ€“ Want crispy cheese? Spoon portions into a baking dish and broil briefly.

Low Sodium Option

  • Want to make this recipe with less salt? Itโ€™s easy to reduce the sodium without sacrificing flavor. Hereโ€™s how:
  • Use low-sodium cream of chicken soup โ€“ or make it from scratch using my homemade version, which gives you full control over the salt.
  • Choose reduced-sodium kielbasa โ€“ many brands offer a lower sodium variety of smoked sausage.

Sounds fantastic and I love Kielbasa – will make it this weekend. Thanks for posting, but I had to cut this in half because there is only me.

  2. Sally says:

Could I use Simply Potatoes, hash brown potatoes instead? They are not frozen, and are what I usually have on hand. They are 30 oz pkg.
    Thank you.

    1. Sandy says:

They should work just fine. I’ve never used that brand, but they should work.

  3. Vicki W. says:

So, you don’t have to thaw the frozen potatoes ahead of time?

    1. Sandy says:

Correct! You don’t need to thaw them first.
