Spiced Apple Hot Toddy

It's getting colder every day as we head towards the Holidays. How can October be over already?! This coming weekend we set the clocks back an hour. Sigh. The good news is that it's time for the warm, spicy, comforting foods and drinks!

I recently remade one of my favorite apple cider "hot cocktails" that I have enjoyed for years. It is warming and tastes like Fall in a cup.

Apples are my favorite fruit, so I tend to use them a lot in my recipes. Maybe it's a Washington thing, we always have apples!

What is a Hot Toddy?

A Hot Toddy is a drink made with liquor, such as whiskey or bourbon, hot water, and honey (or sugar). Oftentimes lemon, warm spices, and/or herbs are added. You may have heard that some people drink Hot Toddies when not feeling well.

An apple hot toddy is good, but a Spiced Apple Hot Toddy is even better, in my opinion!

How To Make A Spiced Apple Hot Toddy

  1. Heat up the apple cider with the spices, then strain.
  2. Sweeten the cider, if desired.
  3. Pour the shot of alcohol into the mug.
  4. Pour the hot spiced cider into the mug.
  5. Garnish with a cinnamon stick and serve.

This is a great hot cocktail for a party. You can make the spiced cider in a slow cooker on Low setting. Then each person can add the amount of alcohol they want to their mug before adding the cider.

Designated Drivers, non-drinkers, and the kiddos can enjoy the cider straight from the crock as it's non-alcoholic!

Grab your fuzzy socks, and a good book, or set up a movie to watch. Enjoy a tasty, cozy Spiced Apple Hot Toddy while you unwind and warm up!
