Slow Cooker Sauerkraut and Kielbasa

Sauerkraut has been a favorite in our home for my entire life. Today's recipe uses this tart and tasty ingredient with some smoky, flavorful kielbasa.

This is a pretty simple recipe that has great flavor, and it makes a lot. You can cut it in half if you like.

If you have never made sauerkraut before, this is a good recipe to try.

It is a "dump and go" recipe, unless you choose to sauté the onion and garlic in some butter.

Tips for the best slow cooker sauerkraut & kielbasa

• The level of tartness is up to you. Drain if you like some tartness. Drain and rinse if you like very little tartness.
• Sauté the onion and garlic in some butter to add more flavor.
• Use a smoked kielbasa for the best flavor.
• You can also use bacon, or other smoky pork.
• Try using beer or white wine in place of the water.

I have prepared this many times it always comes out perfect without changes. Sometimes I add a half of cup of applesauce instead of chopped apple if I dont have one. I use 1 cup of beer & one cup of wine ( if I don't have apple juice) & I also add a couple Tbls of stone ground mustard. Thanks for a great recipe my family loves it & it's so easy!

Wow! Family loved this recipe. Caraway seeds give wonderful addition of flavor. Doubled the recipe and added a pound of cooked bacon, as well as several cut up potato pierogi pieces. Thank you sharing this easy classic meal.

Great Recipe easy and no fuss. Cooked my Kielbasa on the grill first to give it a little char. Brought into work for a pot luck lunch - what a hit. For me easy transport and a vessel to reheat in when I got into work. Everything ready to go at 12:00 for lunch. Thanks for sharing your recipe!
