To Freeze โ Swedish meatballs freeze well! For best texture, freeze just the meatballs and sauce. Cook fresh noodles when ready to serve. Let them cool completely, then transfer to a freezer-safe container or bag. Freeze for up to 2 months. Thaw overnight in the fridge before reheating.

Crock Pot Swedish Meatballs FAQ
Yes! If you prefer homemade meatballs, you can use them in this recipe. Make sure theyโre fully cooked before adding them to the slow cooker, since this recipe is designed for cooked frozen meatballs. Cook time will be shorter if thawed.
There are several easy ways to make this dish lower in sodium without sacrificing flavor:
Use low-sodium broth to cut salt in the sauce base.
Substitute homemade or healthy cream of mushroom soup โ my homemade version lets you control the salt.
Choose a lower-sodium onion soup mix โ or skip the packet and season with dehydrated onions, onion powder, garlic powder, and dried parsley. Or try my homemade onion soup mix, omitting the salt.
Taste before adding extra salt โ the combination of Worcestershire, Dijon, and seasonings often provides plenty of flavor.
Yes. You can whisk together the sauce ingredients (without the sour cream) up to a day ahead and store it covered in the refrigerator. When youโre ready to cook, add the sauce and meatballs to the crockpot and cook as directed.
Absolutely. While wide egg noodles are traditional, you can serve these Swedish meatballs over mashed potatoes, rice, or another pasta shape like penne or rotini.
No problem! You can leave them out, and the sauce will still be delicious and creamy. Sub cream of chicken for the mushroom soup.
For best results, freeze without the noodles and cook fresh pasta when youโre ready to serve. If you freeze the noodles with the sauce, the texture will be softer once reheated.
