Candy Corn Turkey Thanksgiving Cupcakes

Back in the day, at least for me, I took cupcakes to school for special occasions. My birthday, Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

I never thought about it until I got older, but why did I bring cupcakes for the class on MY BIRTHDAY?! But it felt good to share them.

Well, they sure didn't do that when my youngest son was in school. It seems that all of the Holidays were reduced to seasons (Fall Festival, Winter Carnival, etc.), and no more birthday cupcakes.

All of a sudden there were all of these allergies and stuff to be careful of (and I'm sorry for the kiddos who have those allergies).

So you are lucky if you can bring a lettuce leaf to school these days.

I'm sure the kids don't know what they are missing as far as not celebrating the actual Holidays in school. We are so multicultural now that it would be hard to celebrate everything!

Back to these super cute Candy Corn Turkey Thanksgiving Cupcakes. You can take them to school (if allowed) and they will be perfectly acceptable for a Fall Festival, Harvest Festival, or whatever they call it.

These are just chocolate cupcakes decorated for Fall (Thanksgiving) using Googly Eyes (affiliate) and Candy Corn (affiliate).

I tried sticking the candy corn upright in the cupcake and that was also cute. Hubby Paul said he likes how this design looks better, so I stuck with it. You can get creative and make it your own using other candies, different frosting, etc.

Course: Dessert
Cuisine: American, Thanksgiving
Keyword: Thanksgiving cupcakes recipe
Servings: 24
Calories: 343 kcal
Author: Sandy Clifton
Ingredients
  • 1 (15.25 oz) Cake Mix (I use chocolate, but use what you want)
  • 3 lg Eggs (or amount your mix calls for)
  • 1 cup Water (or amount your mix calls for)
  • ⅓ cup Vegetable Oil (or amount your mix calls for)
  • 24 Paper Cupcake Liners
For Decorating
  • 1 (16 oz) tub Frosting (I find chocolate or vanilla looks cute)
  • 1 bag Candy Corn
  • 1 bottle Small Googly Eyes
Instructions
  1. Heat oven to 350° F.

  2. Mix cake mix according to package instructions.

  3. Line 2 (12-cup) muffin tins with the cupcake liners.

  4. Fill cupcake liners about ⅔ full. Use all of the cake batter. It's okay if they are a little fuller than ⅔.

  5. Bake 13 to 17 minutes (or time stated on box), or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean.

  6. Let cool in the pans for 30 minutes. Then remove the cupcakes to a wire rack to finish cooling.

  7. Spread some frosting on each cupcake to cover tops. Then arrange the candy eyes and candy corn on the cupcake to make the turkeys.

  8. Use 5 or 6 candy corns for the tail feathers, and one with the pointy side down for the beak. Set the eyes just above the beak. Or get creative!

I chose this recipe for2 reasons: one, they were so cute, and two, they were so easy to make. I was looking to share a picture of them with you, but couldn’t see a place to upload my photo. Anyway, they turned out really cute and my grandkids loved them!
